FREEPLAY SELF-POWERED SUPERNOVA LANTERN
The Freeplay self-powered Lantern harnesses the power of its user to generate and store energy. The user turns the winding handle (for approximately 30 seconds) which energizes a special constant force spring. Power is generated by the spring driving a generator through an internal gear train.
The unit can be stored in the fully wound state indefinitely ready for immediate use. The Lantern may be operated directly off the spring on the 'NORM' setting.
The Lantern is also equipped with a rechargeable Ni-Cd battery and an intelligent AC/DC charge module. The Lantern offers two brightness settings, 'NORM' and 'MAX' and a flash mode.
The Lantern is designed to operate on the 'MAX' setting under battery power only. Operation on the 'MAX' setting requires a charged battery. This is achieved by an AC/Dc adapter or by successive spring discharges into the battery.
When fully charged, shine time is up to 2 hours on the 'MAX' setting.
During a period of extended power failure (or remote use conditions), the Lantern can be charged repeatedly through the winding handle. Power from successive winds will be converted to electrical energy and stored. The unit will operate continuously if winding is repeated periodically.
There is never a situation in which the user needs to be without light.
When not used for illumination the Freeplay Self-Powered Lantern may be used as a generator to supply power to most appliances using two AA batteries. Its output capacity is limited to 3-Volts and 650mA.
Power Sources:
Spring Engine:
B-Motor textured carbon steel spring, driving a DC generator through a transmission. Approximately 60
turns provides full energy storage.
Lifetime of the spring is 10,000cycles.Rechargeable Battery:
The Lantern is equipped with a 650m Ah rechargeable Ni-Cd battery. This is charged by an AC/DC
adapter (12V, 300mA, 2.1mm center pin positive) plugged into the socket on the rear of the Lantern,
or by a 12V car adapter.
Charge rate
2 hours............50% capacity
6 hours............100% capacity
The battery, which carries the RBRC (Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation) seal, is removable and replaceable.Power Output:
The Lantern is equipped with an auxiliary power output socket on the rear of the Lantern. This provides power 3V, 650mA (2.5mm center pin positive). The power out socket is compatible with standard DC jacks.Performance:
Battery Mode: Up to 2 hours on 'NORM' setting.Spring engine: Spring discharge may be used directly to power the bulb on 'NORM' setting (minimum 3 minutes) or to charge the battery. Successive spring discharges into the battery allow extended shine time.
N.B The Lantern is designed to operate on the 'MAX' setting on battery power only. This requires a charged battery.Light Source:
Double filament high-efficiency Xenon-filled bulb, designed especially for the Freeplay Self-Powered
Lantern (spare included).Flasher Unit:
The Lantern may be used in the flasher mode on both brightness settings. Use in flasher mode doubles shine time.Spring Storage:
The Lantern may be stored in the wound position. This allows instant light whenever required - even if the battery is fully discharged.Weather Resistant:
Durable EVA and monoprene seals provide water ingress resistance.Casing & internal components:
Made from rugged ABS, nylon and reinforced materials.
Dimensions: METRIC Height 170mm Length 250mm Width 140mm Weight 2kg
